Parenting: A lifelong journey
published: Wednesday | October 25, 2006

What's the best way to deal with my child's defiance? How can I help him to be focused? What should I say to my daughter about sex? Is it necessary to display affection to my son?

These are just some of the questions that will be answered at a parenting seminar and exposition titled 'Parenting: A lifelong Journey' The event is scheduled to take place this Saturday at the University of Technology (UTech) auditorium.

Hosted by the Kingston Church of Christ, the seminar seeks to address many of the burning issues now facing Jamaican parents. Guest presenters are the husband and wife team, Drs. Michael and Mary Shapiro, from the United States. The Shapiros are accomplished child psychologists who have co-authored several books on issues relating to children. Their most recent publication is entitled: Under-standing Sexual Behaviour in Children.

The parenting seminar and exposition will feature displays by private sector partners who, through their support, have exemplified the principle of community involve-ment in raising children.

Marriage workshop

The workshops will include classes for married couples as well as single adults. The marriage workshop will be held at the Island Life Auditorium on Sunday, October 29, at 1:30 p.m. and the workshop for single adults is being held the following Monday at the Cleve Grant Building on Constant Spring Road beginning 6:30 p.m.
