The Editor, Sir:
The Jamaica Observer issue of Wednesday, October 18, published on its front page a photograph of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller sketching a man, a wine glass and a beer on a sheet of paper while sitting in the Lower House of Parliament.
I found Mr. Michael Gordon's photograph and drawing of the Prime Minister to be very interesting and commendable; in fact, it was a very skilful drawing to be frank by the honourable lady.
Since its publication, a number of shallow thinking persons have sought to criticise the Prime Minister for doodling in Parliament. However, they are downright silly and simple-minded.
As The Gleaner editorial of October 24 correctly puts it, "The fact that the PM doodles is not a negative reflection on her competence." Well said and written by The Gleaner editorial writer.
An intellectual
The fact that the Prime Minister doodles speaks profoundly to the fact that she is carefully thinking, and an intellectual in my view.
There are many important persons with authority who doodle in meetings whenever they are thinking methodically and seriously contemplating a serious point or trying to find a solution to a particular problem.
Those nonsensical persons should stop criticising the Prime Minister over this issue. Find something more productive to do please.
The fact that the PM doodles does not at all affect her performance as prime minister and she is doing quite well so far.
I am, etc.,
