The Editor, Sir:
I would like to congratulate a 'special' child. Moshesh Adams was mentioned on Page A3 of The Gleaner (24/10/2006) as competing in the Spelling Bee Competition 'despite being in a wheelchair'.
Commendation to Moshesh for sticking with the process. He achieved success just by virtue of entering the contest.
His formal learning started with him crawling around his classroom, being inquisitive for knowledge and exploring the learning community to find it.
Moshesh has something else that is sadly lacking in our country: the love and devotion of a father totally committed to the welfare of his child despite the financial and other odds stacked against him.
He never thought that "nuttin na gwan fe him", the Government is not helping, or put forward any of the sick reasons we use for not doing what are our duties as parents and citizens.
Big up 'dada', and kudos to Moshesh. Stay focused and all will be well.
I am, etc.,
SHARON WILLIAMS
