Almighty God, you are our healer, comforter, parent and friend.
In this month of October, we remember all those who are suffering from and who are survivors of cancer - in particular breast cancer. We remember those who have scars, mental and physical, in the aftermath of being diagnosed with this disease. We bear in mind especially those who live in fear of remission and recurrence.
We bring before you those who wear a courageous smile but are nevertheless anxious about the future. We pray for those who are filled with rage, anger and bitterness; for those who engage in self-pity and wonder why they have become victims; and for those whose faith has been called into question because of the experience of this terminal illness. Grant them, O God, the wisdom to discern your will; the peace which passeth all understanding and may they find strength in you and in the arms of support of their fellow survivors.
We honour all persons who have lost the fight with cancer since last October. May their souls rest in peace.
And now, father, we pray for the relatives and friends, that they will receive the courage and strength to deal with the suffering of their loved ones and that they will be sensitive to the needs and concerns of all cancer victims.
Hear our prayer, O Lord. Amen.
