The Editor, Sir:
On behalf of the citizens of Jamaica, I would like to applaud the community of Grants Pen, St. Andrew, who celebrated one year free of serious crimes. Once a volatile and dangerous community, Grants Pen has just celebrated peace through understanding. No homicide has been recorded for about a year, thanks to the citizens, police and political representatives who have helped to accomplish the rebuilding of the community.
Other areas of Jamaica, both in the urban and rural areas, should try and emulate this great effort of cooperation and understanding. To make peace is not an easy course of action. But with intervention, cooperation, understanding, respect and love for each other, we all can make it happen.
Jamaica is poised for upward mobility based on the many events that will happen in the near future. Therefore, it is essential that we have peace in our communities, parishes, and most of all, the entire island. This will make a safe and better Jamaica.
I am, etc.,
