The Court of Appeal has ruled that 38-year-old police constable Weston Gregory is to serve his
12-year prison sentence for manslaughter.
He was convicted in May 2005 for manslaughter arising from the chopping to death of Clive Anderson on October 3, 2003. He was sentenced by Mr. Justice Mahadev Dukharan.
Anderson was chopped to death some 20 times at his brother's house at Old Kendal Road, Manchester where Gregory was a tenant.
Chased landlord
Evidence was given that a few days before the incident the landlord had taken Gregory to court and he was ordered to leave the premises in November.
On the day of the incident Gregory, who was armed with a machete, chased the landlord who managed to escape.
While the deceased was running, Gregory chopped him in the back and then chopped him all over the body.
A policeman testified at the trial in the Manchester Circuit Court that when he went to the premises, he saw Gregory standing over the deceased who was lying motion-less on the ground.
Kicked deceased
Gregory had a machete and two knives in his hands. He kicked the deceased in the head and said you must "respect big man".
Gregory appealed against his conviction and sentence, but the Court of Appeal, comprising Mr. Justice Seymour Panton, Mr. Justice Karl Harrison and Mr. Justice Horace Marsh (acting), dismissed his appeal.
