UNITED NATIONS (CMC):
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has reiterated its call for the early resumption of the Doha Round of global trade negotiations, saying it was disappointed with the suspension of the talks.
"Given that we live in an increasingly interdependent world, with wider and deeper economic integration processes at play, CARICOM needs the cooperation of the international community, particularly through greater market share and improved access to international markets," St. Vincent and the Grenadines' United Nations Ambassador Margaret Hughes-Ferrari told the UN Second Committee Thursday on behalf of CARICOM.
"Much of developing countries' hopes for achieving our development goals hang on the successful completion of this round of negotiations," she added, calling also for a "clear demonstration of willingness" by the developed countries to fulfill the commitments of the Doha Development Agenda.
