Selling off our heritage
published: Wednesday | November 1, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

The slogan 'Can't stop the Progress' is eroding and destroying that which is Jamaican, our heritage, greenery and natural resources. If this trend continues in the name of progress, I can foresee the same devastation of Haiti in Jamaica. Successive governments and their greedy lackeys are selling off our heritage to blue-eyed foreigners.

I can foresee that whenever the North Coast Highway, is completed, these blue-eyed monsters will gobble up prime north coast real estate and establish exclusive white enclaves with private beaches. Our National Heroes would turn in their graves, if they realised that their blood, sweat and tears were in vain.

Norman Manley put in place the Beach Control Act in 1956 and other legislation to protect wildlife and the watersheds. Our present-day politicians are tunnel-visioned and are not acting to protect the rights of Jamaicans to enjoy our land and beaches.

I am, etc.,
