Parenting workshop to save the Jamaican family
published: Thursday | November 2, 2006

Parents across Jamaica are to benefit from a series of workshops as part of a series of activities put on by the Ministry of Education and Youth and the Coalition for Better Parenting (CBP), to celebrate Parents' Month.

Parents' Month, which began yesterday, is being celebrated under the theme: 'Parents: Today you guide ... Tomorrow they lead'.

Serious predicament

Senator Noel Monteith, State Minister for Education, speaking at the launch, said the family is facing a serious predicament and he urged parents to play a more active role in their children's lives.

"I believe that the family is in crisis. The upsurge in violent crimes, the shift in values and morals, the rise in divorce and separation of spouses, and the increase in abuse of children are all indicators of this," said Senator Monteith.
