Mayor Montague writes to PM on Huddersfield issue
published: Friday | November 3, 2006

Mayor of Port Maria and chairman of the St. Mary Parish Council, Bobby Montague, has written to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller urging her to overturn a decision by the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDC) to sell lands on the Huddersfield Operation Pride Scheme to returning residents and "wealthy persons".

According to Mr. Montague, the lands were "heavily settled by citizens," and former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson had given a commitment to sell the property to government and hotel workers.

"The change in plans that will see the land being sold to others is unfair, and for the Government to be a partner in this venture is skulduggery," Mr. Montague said.

He said the residents had made deposits on the lots to the NHDC and the agency was now planning to return the money.
