JAMAICA COLLEGE will have their hearts set on serving up a cold dish of revenge when they face Walker Cup champions Eltham in a rematch of the final in today's feature game of the ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup 3:00 p.m. at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
It was a bitter loss for the dark blues of Old Hope Road who came out second best to relative newcomers Eltham in the Walker Cup final at the Stadium East field last Friday.
Tears of bitter disappointment streamed as they saw another Walker Cup, a title the school has never won, once again slip through their fingers.
However, when the teams come face to face again today, Jamaica College (JC) will be inspired by one thing: Keammar 'Dada' Daley is home. Daley missed out on the final as he was away with the national team at the Under-20 World Cup qualifiers in Haiti last week. JC will also be encouraged by the return of another front-man, Dewayne Williams, who also missed that encounter with an accumulated three yellow cards.
Despite the return of Daley and Williams, JC will still not start favourites against a very talented and defensively solid Eltham team. Standing in the middle is a major force for Eltham, Tremaine Stewart.
Stewart was a shock omission from the Under-20 squad to Haiti and will be more than a handful for the Jamaica College defence. They will also have their hands full with front-man Dwayne Hunter who has found the net for his team in the past three games, the wily Jamoy Sibbles on the right side and the pacy Dorian Douglas on the left.
In the day's early encounter - a 1:00 p.m. fixture, Charlie Smith will look to recover their goal-scoring touch when they battle Spanish Town. The team which slammed in 26 goals in Manning Cup Group C found goals and opportunities hard to come by in their past two Walker Cup showings.
However, Spanish Town, who finished just behind a solid Norman Manley team, are not to be taken lightly. Having a good rest period after not taking part in the Walker Cup, they could be a challenging prospect for the slightly favoured Charlie Smith.
