The Editor, Sir:
It is with a heavy heart that I read this morning's editorial 'Colin Campbell must go'. Why? Because under the circumstances he should also have stepped down from the Senate and if he did not, the Prime Minister should have asked him to step down. The rationale to resign form the Cabinet and as general secretary of the People's National Party (PNP) but remain
as a Government senator truly escapes me.
What is even more disturbing is the seeming reticence on the part of our Prime Minister on this issue. One can only be forced to conclude that the PNP has remained in power for so long that it has become totally indifferent to what is right and what is wrong.
Portia Simpson Miller was sworn in as Prime Minister, bolstered by a tremendous amount of goodwill. People felt and hoped that Portia would have represented a 'wind of change' in a Govern-ment that had been perceived as stale and apathetic to the electorate since being in power for so long.
With each passing day, however Portia is demonstrating that it is 'business as usual'.
Portia, do not lose the opportunity to make your mark as someone who is committed to stamping out corruption and leading a Govern-ment that is fully accountable to its electorate.
It is on this basis that I say, Portia and Colin, do the right thing. Colin Campbell, just go!
I am, etc.
