Frome Technical hunt another win
published: Saturday | November 4, 2006

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Ten teams, including newly-crowned Ben Francis Cup champions Frome Technical, will be going after their second win in the inter-zone round of the 2006 ISSA/Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup when the competition resumes this afternoon with a full slate of matches.

While the top-of-the-table clash at the Frome Sports ground between joint Group Two leaders Frome Technical and Ocho Rios should take centre stage on account of the fact that Frome Technical are on course for the rural double - Ben Francis and daCosta Cup - all 12 games should generate much interest.

Like the Frome and Ocho Rios showdown, which would see the winner gaining automatic qualification to the competition's quarter-final round, the scenario is much the same in the other top-of-the table clash between joint Group Three leaders Charlemont and Titchfield, who will meet at Dinthill Technical.

Other Games

The other games down for contention are as follows: William Knibb vs Petersfield, Cedric Titus vs Rusea's, Grange Hill vs Herbert Morrison, Munro vs Spaldings, St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) vs Holmwood, Bog Walk vs Port Antonio, Manchester vs Denbigh, Decarteret vs Clarendon College, Garvey Maceo vs Oracabessa and Glenmuir vs Tacky.

Despite coming away with a 2-0 win against Herbert Morrison on Wednesday, Frome were not quite fluent. Coach Boysie Nicholson blames it on the players being jaded after their epic Ben Francis final against Clarendon College. However, he expects them to be back up to full speed today.

"The players understand what is required of them so I expect them to lift themselves up and go out and get the job done," Nicholson said. "Our main objective this season is to win the daCosta Cup and that has not changed."

However, should Ocho Rios report in the explosive form which saw them hammering Grange Hill 4-0 on Wednesday, Frome could find themselves in for much more than a walk in the park as the Ocho Rios team have lost only once this season, their 1-0 Ben Francis Cup loss to Petersfield.
