WI in good spirits despite tiresome trip to Pakistan
published: Tuesday | November 7, 2006

LAHORE, Pakistan (CMC):

Fresh from their loss to Australia in Sunday's ICC Cham-pions Trophy final, a tired West Indies team arrived in Pakistan yesterday to begin their three-Test series against the hosts.

The 15-man squad, led by captain Brian Lara, traveled from Mumbai in India to Lahore via New Delhi and despite the long travel, remained in good spirits.

Settling in nicely

"It was a very tiring day for us in terms of travel but we arrived in good spirits this evening and we are settling into our hotel nicely," vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan said. "We are looking forward to the two-day warm-up game starting on Wednesday, which will help us in adjusting our approach for Test cricket since in the recent past we have been playing a lot of One-Day cricket."

Lara and head coach Bennett King are scheduled to host a news conference at the team's hotel this morning, ahead of the team's first practice session in the afternoon.

West Indies and Pakistan will clash in the first Test beginning November 11 in Lahore with matches to follow in Multan and Karachi.

The regional will side will also engage the hosts in a five-match ODI series on the conclusion of the Test series.

West Indies last toured Pakistan in 1997 when they were walloped 3-0. Last year, the two teams drew their two-Test Caribbean series 1-1.

SQUAD:

Brian Lara (captain), Ramnaresh Sarwan, Christopher Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Daren Ganga, Lendl Simmons, Runako Morton, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Omari Banks, Dave Mohammed, Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor, Darren Powell, Corey Collymore.

Team Operations Unit: Tony Howard (manager), Bennett King (head coach), David Moore (assistant coach/analyst), Stephen Partridge (physiotherapist), Bryce Cavanagh (physical performance coach), Imran Khan (media officer).
