The Editor, Sir:
I am a very concerned citizen and I cannot keep silent about the escalating crime and violence.
Many years ago, when someone died it was of great concern and people would travel miles to see the body. But in these modern days when a person dies, it is just like an animal and not a human being. How sad!
A few weeks ago, a young lady was stabbed several times and then her throat was slashed. It was a brutal murder. How many times do we hear of women being murdered in this similar way?
But what surprises me when listening to the radio talk show programmes is that no one is saying anything about these brutal slayings. Or if they do, it is very seldom. All they are talking about is politics, etc.; not the precious life of human beings cut short.
I am appealing to my fellow Jamaicans to put life first. When you call the radio programmes, talk about the tragedies and traumas - not politics. Because it could be you next: or your son or daughter.
This is what we must talk about. We are living in a mad, mad world, and many people are playing with their lives.
I am, etc.,
