PM should call a general election
published: Wednesday | November 8, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

When I reviewed the current Jamaica economic and social situation in the round, I came to the conclusion that the Prime Minister must now call a general election. The current Prime Minister is not competent enough to take Jamaica through the economic hardships created by the PNP government itself. The JLP government is my choice, but if the JLP is not elected then a new PNP government may help out the situation marginally, but will still promote the wrong approach in managing the economic and social situation.

The JLP, led by Bruce Golding, for Jamaica is a better choice for good governance which is what the country needs. He is not just a developer of the right solutions in governance but he is really knowledgeable, and is dedicated to the Jamaican interest abroad and at home. We worked together in the '70s and he has not changed. He is competent and capable; I know so. He doesn't need my recommendation, but since he may come across as not too exciting in delivery of intentions, the Jamaican people should know that competence has always been misrepresented through the popularity of charisma such as that of Michael Manley, who fouled up with a state of emergency and could not define his democratic socialism properly as a doable solution in light of what was best for the Jamaican economy. Mr. Patterson came along and did no better; nor has the first female Prime Minister.

I am, etc.,

BERESFORD A. DAVIDSON
