The bus driver who left a schoolgirl behind
published: Saturday | November 11, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

On Wednesday, November 8, at approximately 6:20 a.m., I boarded a number 47 JUTC bus at the Price Rite terminus. The bus left the bus stop about five minutes later. At the next bus stop, just around the corner, a little girl on her way to school was running to catch the bus and signalling for the bus to stop. The bus driver did not stop, he just drove past the bus stop.

Passengers started to yell at the driver for him to stop and pick up the little girl. He did not care in the least bit, and continued driving away. The little girl was still running after the bus after the bus driver passed the bus stop. Passengers indicated this to the driver, who still did not care and continued driving away. Passengers were now shouting at the driver to have some heart and stop for the little girl. Still, he drove away.

The little girl's sister was on the bus and was almost in tears as she watched the bus leave her sister. The little girl's sister then came off at the next bus stop so she could rejoin her sister who did not get the bus.

We do not need bus drivers such as these at JUTC! This was a disgraceful act, driving past a bus stop and leaving a little girl. JUTC says they are losing money yet they are leaving passengers at the bus stop. Please, bus drivers, you need to do better than this.

JUTC, please do something about this situation as it was totally unacceptable. The details of the bus are as follows:

Licence Plates Registration# - PA3783

#47-47/8; Long bus (train); November 8, 2006, Wednesday morning at approximately 6:20.

I am sure you can find out which bus driver this was from the details above.

I am, etc.,

LISA MILLS
