Fours hours after the police had recovered a stolen Mitsubishi Evolution motor car, the vehicle went missing again, this time from the premises of the Porus Police Station in Manchester, where it was locked up and parked.
The silver-looking 2001 vehicle was originally stolen from Ripon Road, New Kingston, three weeks ago. But up to late Staurday afternoon, the disappearance of the vehicle still remains a mystery. Nobody seems to know under what circumstances the vehicle left the premises of the police station.
"We are aware of the incident, the matter was reported to us Friday night and on Saturday we sent a team out to the Porus Police Station to investigate the matter," Deputy Superintendent Dayton Henry, of the Internal Affairs and Anti-Corruption Division, told The Gleaner.
A spokesman at the Constabu-lary Communication Network told The Gleaner that the incident took place about 9:30 p.m.
He said the stolen vehicle was recovered by the police shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and taken to the Porus Police Station. A man who was driving the vehicle was also arrested.
A chain and pad lock that was used to lock the back gate of the police station was found broken and the gate left ajar - a gesture which led the officers to believe that the car exited through the back gate.
On Thursday when the car was recovered, it was discovered that the carjackers had tampered with the engine and licence plate numbers.
