'Cappo' breaks Boys' Town's heart

Damion 'Cappo' Williams scored his third goal in two games to give Waterhouse a 1-0 victory over Boys' Town at Collie Smith Drive and ensured his side remained on top in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.

Williams, who scored twice against Seba last Wednesday, scored in the 79th minute after he stole a poor back-pass by Xavian Virgo.

The win moved Waterhouse to 25 points, four more than second-placed Harbour View, while Boys' Town remained on 15.

Both teams played an exciting first half with end-to-end attacking but failed to find the back of the net. Young Peter Keyes was a menace to the Waterhouse defence with his pace and came close when his powerful shot from a few yards away was heading for goal before deflecting off a defender's head.

Minutes later Waterhouse goalkeeper Richard McCallum made what seemed like an impossible save to deny Oneil Thompson as he managed to get a finger to the ball while going in the opposite direction.

Garfield Reid and Roberto Fletcher also came close for Waterhouse with the former hitting the upright early in the game.

Goals win matches

Boys' Town's failure to finish would continue in the second half with Garfield Gillespie skying a shot from six yards, albeit he was under pressure.

"As the old adage says goals win matches and we didn't convert our chances and the opportunity came to Waterhouse and they took their chance," commented Boys' Town coach Andrew Price after the game.

After Williams' goal, it seemed Gillespie had found the equaliser when he pounced on a rebound with McCallum on the ground, but he slipped before getting to the ball.

"It always feels good to get a victory," said Waterhouse coach Barrington Gaynor.

"We made some adjustments at half-time and it seemed to have remedied the problem and we got a goal from a goalkeeper's pass and we just closed the game out."
