Trapped in an 'axis of evil?
published: Tuesday | November 14, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The blood-letting that continues unabated in sections of Kingston and St. Andrew and in Jones Town, in particular, since 2004 to the present, has caused me to wonder if Her Majesty's loyal opposition in Parliament and Her Majesty's loyal Government in Parliament really care about the deaths and the destruction of property taking place in these inner-city communites.

Several homes have been burnt to the ground, thereby resulting in the relocation of several residents. Law-abiding citizens who cannot relocate are trapped in this axis of evil that comprises all of West Kingston, Kingston 12, Kingston 13, Central Kingston, Southside, Rockfort, Mountain View, August Town, Payne Land, Olympic Gardens and Waterhouse. The Government and the Opposition seem impotent in the face of imminent civil strife. The army and the police perform only cosmetic services in the name of "national interest" when only the wealthy upper class comes under severe threat.

The Minister of Justice stated recently that help will come to solve the unabated insurgency; not today or tomorrow, but it will come. When? Do we have to call in the Marines or can the Government act now?!

I am, etc.,

Resident of Jones Town
