For the third consecutive year, the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AmCham), in partnership with the Cable and Wireless Foundation, will stage 'Give A Child A Dream', hosting close to 150 children from 13 inner-city schools at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Wednesday, November 15.
'Give A Child A Dream' is geared to children in the age group seven to 12 years who reside and attend schools in the inner city and other troubled areas. According to Becky Stockhausen, executive director of the chamber, "The goal of this three-year programme is to open windows of hope and opportunity to underprivileged children through their exposure to various fields of enterprise, so that they may 'dream big', propelling them to secure their futures as adults involved in the building of our nation."
Tours and presentations
The day's activities will involve AmCham's member companies and friends each hosting in their offices on the morning of November 15, a group of 10 to 30 children along with a chaperone from select schools, where they will participate in tours and hear presentations by staff members. Thereafter, the children will attend a luncheon at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel and participate in a motivational presentation by Jamaican-born author and international speaker, Alvin Day.
They will also be entertained by drummer M'Bala and storyteller Amina Blackwood Meeks.
Following lunch, the children will view a career expo featuring displays by member companies and various professional associations before returning to school.
'Give A Child A Dream' is sponsored by the Cable and Wireless Foundation of Jamaica in association with Chubby, Fruta, Kool Kidz, American Airlines, Island Car Rentals Ltd., and the Jamaica Pegasus.
