The Editor, Sir:
Jamaica has done it again! We have defied all the odds of any country, not to mention a small island, as three athletes, all Jamaican by some connection or form, have been honoured at the prestigious World Athletics Gala in Monaco. Asafa, of course being the star. Let us not forget that Sanya is Jamaican-born, our blood running in those veins, and Sherone, even though not winning an award, being on a three-member short list for the female performer of the year award! What achievements! What representation!
We should all feel special! As Jamaicans we can read about Asafa's, Sherone's and even Sanya's accomplishments with great pride!
Amidst all the stench of crime and hopelessness, political strife and disappointment, let us not forget that we are a special people. Despite what the facts seem to highlight, the truth is that we are a blessed nation, and capable, if not destined for greatness! I urge my fellow Jamaicans, let us put the former things behind us, and press toward the higher calling, the one of victory, success and love that we were created to be!
I am, etc.,
