Urgent plea to the KSAC
published: Thursday | November 16, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

This is an urgent plea to the KSAC traffic authorities to examine the traffic lights at the southern end of Tom Redcam Drive.

On the approach from Camp Road, the roadway is divided by road markings into three lanes with appropriate arrows - the left straight ahead into Marescaux Road and the other two into Tom Redcam Drive. Exactly in front of, and suspended high above the middle lane is a set of lights. Facing the right lane is another set which is positioned in the median across the road on Caledonia Avenue.

When the centre light turns green the one facing the right (turn) lane is red. The centre light controls traffic going directly into the two-lane Marescaux Road, and this is where the problem lies.

Dangerous driving

On the 6th of June this year I arrived at the intersection from Camp Road immediately after a near fatal accident and both lucky-to-be-alive drivers claimed to have had the green light. Quite recently while I waited in the right lane on the red light a motorist came alongside me in the middle lane and without stopping turned into Tom Redcam Drive narrowly missing an SUV fast approaching from Caledonia Avenue.

I wish to suggest that the suspended light be made to also control right turn traffic turning north onto Tom Redcam Drive.

I am, etc.,

HORACE G. LEWIS
