Three held in connection with St James triple murder
published: Thursday | November 16, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

The St. James police say they have identified three men who they believe can assist in their investigation of Monday night's triple murder in Salt Spring, St. James.

"They are known as Eldon Calvert, Orett Grant and a man known only as 'Cubbie'," Superintendent Warren Clarke told The Gleaner yesterday evening.

"Our intelligence indicates that at least one of them, Calvert, is affiliated with the Stone Crusher gang."

The notorious St. James-based gang has been blamed for the murderous rampage now taking place in several of Montego Bay's inner-city communities.

"We had a meeting with the residents in Salt Spring to discuss matters of security and to give general reassurance that we will be unrelenting in our efforts to catch the killers," stated Supt. Clarke, who is the commanding officer for the St. James Police Division.

Police presence

The officer added that additional police personnel have been deployed to the area.

Armed thugs gunned down 54-year-old Victor 'Mr. Chin' Young, Hartley Campbell, a 34-year-old chef and Wesley Scott, a 57-year-old caddie at Meggie Top, Salt Spring on Monday night.

Police say the attack began about 11:45 p.m. when gunmen went to Young's shop and shot him two times. They then went next door to Campbell's cook shop, where he and Scott were killed.

A dog that attacked the gunmen was also fatally shot near to Campbell's businessplace.
