All go for JLP annual conference
published: Saturday | November 18, 2006

The executive of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is reporting that all is set for its two-day annual conference which gets under way today inside the National Arena.

The party expects to put the finishing touches on its manifesto, detailing the JLP's policies to be implemented if it forms the next government.

Buoyed by the findings of a recent Bill Johnson poll, which showed both political parties racing at a dead heat, the JLP has expressed confidence that this conference would be its last in Opposition.

Speaking at a press briefing earlier this week to announce plans for its annual conference, JLP general secretary Karl Samuda told journalists that the party was staging this major event as a united force.

Meanwhile, the police are advising that plans will be in place to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in and around the vicinity of the National Area.

Police Personnel

Senior Superintendent of Police, Ealan Powell told The Gleaner yesterday that a significant number of police personnel would be deployed, particularly on Sunday during the public session, to manage traffic in the area.

SSP Powell cautioned against breaches of the Road Traffic Act, noting that body protrusion, reckless driving and other offences would be dealt with by the police.

"We are imploring people to obey the rules of the road because where there is noncompliance we will seek to enforce the law," Powell warned.
