Nicole Ann Fullerton, former acting operations manager of the failed Caldon Merchant Bank, who was convicted on Monday of fraud charges was taken into custody yesterday after she attempted to flee the island.

Ms. Fullerton, daughter of Henry Fullerton, former head of the failed Caldon Finance Group, was held at the Norman Manley International Airport while she was about to board a flight to the United States.

She is to appear today before Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in relation to her attempt to leave the island.

RM Pusey had found her guilty on Monday of three counts of fraudulent conversion of $15 million belonging to businessman Colin Karjohn. Ms. Fullerton's bail was extended until December 14 for sentencing.

Conditions of her bail

A stop order was placed on Ms. Fullerton when she was granted bail shortly after she was arrested and charged in April 1999. The conditions of her bail were that she should report to the police station nearest to her home twice weekly and surrender her travel documents to the police.

Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn, who prosecuted the case, said yesterday that, after Ms. Fullerton was convicted, no application was made for the terms and conditions of her bail to be varied which would allow her after conviction to travel abroad.
