WESTERN BUREAU:

The staff at Sandals Negril is now mourning the loss of two colleagues who were killed in a motor vehicle crash along the Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril, Westmoreland on Thursday afternoon.

The dead persons have been identified as 30-year-old lifeguard, Steve Lynch of Haughton Court, Hanover, and Newton Dickers, a 45-year-old diving instructor of Rock district, Trelawny.

fantastic staff members

General Manager at Sandals Negril, Wayne Cummings, remembers the workers as being hardworking and fantastic staff members.

"These men are not just staff members, they are like family," he told The Gleaner. "As we speak, staff members from other sister properties are here to relieve the water sport department, as it is a very depressing situation."

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network are that Thursday, about 12:20 p.m., Dickers was driving a grey Nissan Sunny station wagon motor car. On reaching a section of the Norman Manley Boulevard, the car collided with a Coaster bus.

Dickers and his passenger Lynch, sustained injuries and were pronounced dead at hospital.

The cause of the motor vehicle collision is still under investigation by the Green Island Police.
