FALMOUTH, Trelawny

'Cluster Vibes', a termly newsletter produced by the Trelawny Cluster of Principals to cover news in the cluster, was launched yesterday at the Hague Primary & Infant School.

The newsletter is the brainchild of the outgoing education officer for the cluster, Deloris Mundy, who challenged principals to more actively pursue, avenues to arouse enthusiasm in education.

Black River, St Elizabeth

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has said that, despite promises to the contrary, the People's National Party (PNP) will not be presenting its full slate of 60 candidates at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Mrs. Simpson Miller made the disclosure after touring sections of South West St. Elizabeth, an opportunity which she used to introduced the Reverend Stanley Redwood as the caretaker candidate for the constituency on Thursday.

She said that, with the exception of Western Portland and South East St. Ann, the party has its candidates in place for all the other constituencies.

Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland

Persons in Eastern Westmoreland, who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the community, will be recognised and awarded by the Sandals Whitehouse European Village and Spa when it launches its 'Community role-model and outstanding citizens scheme' later this week.

This first community leaders awards initiative by the hotel forms part of efforts to single out unsung heroes of Whitehouse and adjoining communities, whose contributions were not always recognised and awarded.

Mandeville, Manchester

Chief Executive Officer of the Super Plus Food stores chain, Wayne Chen, was inducted into the Manchester Hall of Fame during the Manchester Homecoming Foundation banquet at the Kendal Conference Centre last Saturday. Mr. Chen is a graduate of deCarteret College, in Mandeville, and the University of the West Indies, Mona.

The son of Vincent George and Hyacinth Chen, he sits on and chairs several boards of a number of leading financial institutions as well as those of a number of schools and community organisations.

Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland

More than 14,000 residents in several districts in central Westmoreland should have access to potable water soon, as the Venture River water supply and distribution project is nearing completion.

This is one of six water supply projects being carried out across the island by the National Water Commission (NWC) in association with the Red Stripe Diageo Foundation, which made a donation of $100 million to the NWC shortly after Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. The donation is specifically for the improvement and upgrading of water supply infrastructure across the island, particularly those that were affected by the hurricane.

Spanish Town, St Catherine

A two-car collision along the Bodles main road in Old Harbour on Monday has left one man dead and three other persons suffering critical injuries.

The dead man is Augustus Sutherland, a 44-year-old taxi driver of Sandy Bay district, Clarendon.

Reports are that, about 5:45 a.m., Sutherland was driving his taxi towards Old Harbour when, upon reaching near a canal bank, a Toyota motor car coming from Old Harbour overtook a line of traffic and collided with Sutherland's car. The impact forced the car onto the sidewalk.
