Jamaica trample Antigua
published: Monday | November 27, 2006

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Tournament favourites Barbados and Jamaica both completed their second consecutive wins while Dominica upset St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in the 2006 Caribbean Netball Association's Jean Pierre Under-16 tournament on Saturday evening.

Barbados, the title-holders, easily toppled St Lucia 32-10 and ex-champions Jamaica thumped Antigua and Barbuda 62-6 at the Jean Pierre Complex.

Five-time champions Jamaica, looking sharp in their bid to regain the title, got dominant shooting performances from Danielle Ellis (23/28) and Patricia McCalla (24/26) as they flattened Antigua and Barbuda by 56 goals.

The Jamaicans had beaten St Lucia 47-12 on Friday and have rushed past the 100-mark in scoring from just two games.

In other games, the 1999 champions SVG fell to Dominica and hosts Trinidad and Tobago beat Grenada to join Jamaica and Barbados at the top of the standings after two rounds.

Barbados, who handed Jamaica their first ever defeat in the seven-year history of the tournament en route to championship honours last year, were hardly tested by St Lucia.

Abeje Carrington had a perfect 13 goals from as many tries to lead Barbados to their 22-goal triumph.

Dominica, rebounding from their opening game loss to Barbados in Friday, stung SVG 36-33 with Stacey Fontaine sinking a remarkable 34 goals from 36 attempts.

Talesha Warner (22/29) was the high scorer for SVG, who had beaten Grenada on Friday.

T&T were led in scoring by Natalia Phillip and Anuola Camejo, with 13 each, as they ran past Grenada 27-17.

Anisha Cape (11/24) was the top-scorer for Grenada.

The tournament continued yesterday evening with Jamaica facing Grenada, Dominica meeting St Lucia, Barbados against Antigua and Barbuda, and SVG tackling T&T.
