Political fallacies
published: Tuesday | November 28, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

For over 17 years this country has ignored the destructive actions and tendencies of the governing PNP administration. We have not analysed but rather chosen to ignore the unprecedented corrupt, inept, and despicable goings on. From the start of the PNP's governance we have witnessed the Zinc Scandal, the Furniture Scandal, and the Shell Waiver Scandal.

We did not see the damage of this trend to the country in general and our democracy in particular. Chances are that we might have had another party in government (JLP or NDM) if the media and the citizens showed more interest in these matters. What were the real circumstances responsible for the financial sector melt-down? All of these issues need to be analysed even at this late stage, because many persons have suffered considerably as a result, and the country has in some cases lost on the best opportunities.

We were mainly preoccupied with praising the party and its leadership for actions and qualities which in many cases had nothing to do with their efforts.

I am, etc.,

I.C. Wade
