Woman strangled
published: Wednesday | November 29, 2006

Glenroy Sinclair, Senior Crime Reporter

Three weeks ago, Claudette Nelson was chopped and killed in St. Catherine by her spouse, Linton Stephens. A week later in Hanover, another woman was chopped by her ex-husband, who dumped her body parts in an incinerator.

The jealousy trend continued yesterday, when 23-year-old Dalianne Dixon was strangled while she slept peacefully at her home in Leith Hall, St. Thomas. She died four weeks after her ex-lover had made threats on her life.

Body found by mother

Reports are that Dixon's mother found her body in her bed, wrapped in a sheet, with a piece of electric cord around her neck. She was dressed in a white top and jeans. The police suspect her death to be homicide.

"This is something like a domestic matter. We have questioned one person and are looking for another who we believe can assist us with our investigation," Superintendent Steve McGreggor told The Gleaner yesterday.

Allegations are that Dixon was last seen alive Monday night in Morant Bay by her mother. She later left for home but was discovered dead yesterday morning. Supt. McGreggor said he expects to make an early breakthrough in the matter.

"Her ex-lovers vowed that if he could not get her back, then he was going to kill her," said a policeman who is close to the investigation.

At least 128 women have been murdered this year.
