Government pensions in Jamaica to be increased

Government pensioners are to receive an increase in their monthly payments effective July 1 this year. Finance and Planning Minister Dr. Omar Davies announced in the House of Representatives on Tuesday that Cabinet had approved the increase which would would be paid retroactively in December.

Dr. Davies told his parliamentary colleagues that the Government had set aside $300 million to make the payment. He said the increases will range from a low of $500 per month for pensioners receiving $75,000 and over per month to a high of $1,500 per month for pensioners receiving $20,000 per month.
