St Catherine, KC score big victories
published: Thursday | November 30, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS St. Catherine were not challenged as they coasted to a 88-26 victory over Jose Marti in ISSA/KFC Southern Conference basketball action at St. Catherine High on Tuesday.

Ricardo Sutherland led the way for the St. Catherine team with 16 points as his team extended its season record to an unbeaten 3-0. Jose Marti's Kevin Campbell put in a gallant effort for his team netting all but three of his side's points.

Pounding

In the day's other game, a workman-like 21 points and eight rebounds from captain Omari Green led Kingston College to a 57-27 pounding of St. Andrew Technical (STATHS). The boys from North Street went on the offensive from the opening whistle and by the end of the first quarter held a 19-6 lead.

STATHS began the second quarter in positive fashion and managed to cut into the lead and found themselves trailing by 10 points. However, Kingston College's front line, which was constantly fed the ball under the hoop, was more than a handful.

By half-time the 'Fortis' team had built up a 36-18 lead and, despite a close third quarter, they went on to restrict STATHS to just three points in the final stanza.

Kingston College now move to a 2-1 record, while STATHS lost their second game in a row.
