Colour for Christmas
published: Monday | December 4, 2006

Nashauna Drummond, Staff Reporter

Too timid for a complete change of colour? Pick your hair up with some streaks like Charmaine Talbut's copper sunset. - Ricardo Makyn/Staff Photographer

Try streaks, highlights or a complete change of hair colour this Christmas so that your Christmas tree and your home are not the only things decorated for the season. Strip away the dull colour you've been wearing all year and let your hair celebrate with snazzy, vibrant, festive colours.

A stop at Weaving and Haircare Centre, shop #12, 7th Avenue Plaza on Constant Spring Road, reveals women who are letting the festivities of the season get to their hair. And Flair just happened to visit when Lorna Golding, wife of Opposition Leader Bruce Golding, was getting her highlights for the season and joined in our fun.

Colouring

Be bold, be adventurous and change your hair colour. Janet Williams changed her entire hair colour with permanent colour to honey blonde. Note that only on certain hair types should permanent colour be used, as it can cause excessive damage to your hair. With a low cut Williams, lightens her roots once a month.

Streaks

Not bold enough to go all the way - then jazz up your look with streaks. Charmaine Talbut's hair is streaked with basic white then copper sunset rinse is applied.

Whether you are thinking of adding or already wearing extensions you can also enjoy the new vibrancy of streaks. Sharlene Miller use streaked extensions with a myriad of streaks. Using extensions streaked with copper sunset, honey gold and blonde, she coloured her natural hair brown to blend in with the extensions.

Highlights

If streaks are too 'wild' for you then highlights are subtle but noticeable difference. Lorna Golding's highlights are a mixture of copper sunset and rosette rage.

Colouring tips

Manager of Weaving and Haircare Centre, Marcia Tain, notes that when colouring, there are rules that should be followed.

1. Shampoo weekly using a moisturising shampoo and conditioner every five to seven days. Not only is this hygienic but living in the tropics our hair loses moisture.

2. Hair must be relaxed two weeks before permanent colour or highlights.

3. For rinse or semi-permanent relax and colour immediately after

4. After every colour get a deep treatment condition immediately with three follow-ups.

5. Ends must be trimmed for colour or they will become frizzy. Don't be afraid to cut get them properly trimmed or the ends will tell.
