The Editor, Sir:
The disgraceful condition of what used to be the chalet at the top of the Blue Mountain peak, will probably only amplify everything that is wrong with Jamaica today and will either scare away anyone who may still have some strange hope that Jamaica is worth fighting for, or wake us up to the enormous potential that still resides in this beautiful and magnificent country we call Jamaica.
What is truly awful is that we as a people, who have been blessed with some of the most beautiful natural, intellectual and material resources, are squandering our blessings which have the potential to make Jamaica the most fantastic place in the world.
I am appealing to the Prime Minister to use her good offices to correct these problems post haste, particularly the proper development of the tourism facilities of the Blue Mountains, which, if properly addressed, have the potential to create so much positive economic and social renewal, that undoubtedly could help to stop much of the violence.
Jamaica needs visionaries
Jamaica needs a great vision around which we can all build our dreams and hopes for a better tomorrow, and there is no better vision for this nation than to make our tourism product the very best in the world. The Prime Minister needs to launch this project with the greatest fanfare ever seen, anywhere.
The time has come to go to the mountain top. We can make Jamaica the best vacation destination in the world, and to realise this vision, the goal must be stated clearly until it becomes a part of the positive Jamaican psyche.
I am, etc.,
