THE EDITOR, Sir:
Our heartiest congratulations to Mr. Christopher Smith, the Project Manager for the ICC World Cup stadia of Sabina Park and Trelawny, for the very professional manner in which he has managed these projects - and without cost overruns, which regretfully seem to be becoming the norm in public sector contracts.
The efficiency and the enormous capacity for hard work which Mr. Smith has demonstrated on these projects are a credit to us all, and stand out as examples of what we can achieve when we are committed to the principle of rewards based on meritocracy instead of handing out awards left and right merely for incumbency and status.
Mind you, this was achieved against enormous odds including national cement shortage and quality variances which cost the nation billions of dollars and countless loss of production hours.
The Government could reap a ton of goodwill if ministers and the public sector agencies are committed to much better performance in the efficient delivery of goods and services to the Jamaican people and the private sector. After all, these are the core functions of ministers of good government.
I am, etc.,
