Helping the poor
published: Wednesday | December 6, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

It is with great sadness and despair that I read Nolita Maxwell's letter, 'What is the PM doing for the taxpayers?', where she castigates the PM for helping the poor. When did it become negative behaviour to help the poor in a country that prides itself on its Christianity?

To think it would have been uncharitable, but to be willing to publish and put one's name to it, goes beyond the pale.

I pray the Prime Minister will not be influenced by such criticism. There will never be security as long as there is crippling poverty. It is as simple or as complex as that.

I am, etc.,
