With his new involvement with Fifth Element Records, Richie Spice is also taking another critical step to make sure the words he pens remain his.
"The music we put out there is all about righteousness and I am declaring it to the fullest. That is why it is necessary to have the rights to you work," Richie Spice said.
The Jamak Music Publishing fund which is fully administered and published by Universal announce the signing of its first author, the rising Reggae dancehall lyrical writer and performing artiste Richie Spice a.k.a. Richell Bonner.
"Rights and justice are the things that are being pursued and put out there. We have to show that there is a different between sta-tus (short 'a') and status (long 'a'.) We have to stand up for equal rights and just even in music."
Since his lyrics comprise what takes place in real-life Jamaica, he does not mind other people using his words. Instead, he said he wants to be given the credit he deserves.
Richie Spice started getting much attention when his single, Earth A Run, was resurrected from his debut album Universal released in 2000. He went on to record other poetic lyrics such as Folly Living and Crying Outfor Love.
"When you are singing positive songs, success may take a little longer but it has to manifest [itself]," Spice said.
Spice is also gearing up for the launch of another album, In The Streets To Africa, which is scheduled for release in February of 2007. He recently returned from New York City where he concluded another video shoot for another track, Brown Skin.
"Right now I am just giving thanks for life. It is the greatest thing a man can have now - you know, trying to make the fullest out of it," Spice said.
He is urging other entertainers to follow his lead so that they will not be taken advantage of. The deal is said to be long term, exclusive and worldwide.
