Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

DANE VERNON wrapped up a second straight title in the five-tournament Trafalgar Travel Amateur series when he got by Yussuf Migoko in straight sets in the Jamaica National Amateur Tennis Championship last weekend at the Liguanea Club.

Vernon, who also won the Wigton Windfarm Amateur Tennis Classic last month, got off to a quick start in the men's Class One final as he blew by Migoko 6-2 and then went on to wrap up the match by winning the second set 6-4. Vernon has now moved to the top of the Class One standings with 240 points.

Runner-up Migoko now sits in second place, while defending champion Dwayne Pagon occupies third.

With just one tournament left to go, there was also a shift in leadership in the men's Class Two category, Howard Powell took over at the top when he defeated Lloyd Nelson 6-1, 6-3 in Sunday's final. Both players, Howard who moved to 200 points, and Nelson who advanced to 150, slipped past Allie McNab who remained on 140 after missing the tournament.

In men's Class Three, Richard Harris remained on top with 215 points despite both Marlon Brown and Leopold Fungsang making up some ground. Brown came from behind to get the better of Fungsang 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the final over the weekend, but the two remain tied on 190 points.

In men's Class Four action, Nelton Forsythe defeated Clive Smith 6-4, 6-2. Andrez Coy leads the category with 245 points, Forsythe is second on 215 points while Nigel Taylor is in third place with 195.

Daniel Monteith is now the sole leader in the ladies category as she blanked Calisia Reid 6-0, 6-0 in the ladies' final. Monteith began the tournament tied with Sasha Hanna on 120 points but moved ahead with Hanna not taking part. The final tournament in the series will be next March.
