Terry and Lenford 'Glen' Young became one in December, 2002; one in mind, one in spirit, and now, one in ministry. The husband and wife team of gospel music ministers, Soul Inspirers, seeks to use their songs and lives to change hearts.
Glen and Terry got saved around the same time and then decided to start doing gospel music. However, they both wrote gospel songs while still in the secular world. The writing was, therefore, on the wall long before 2002. Now, they are basking in the fact that the Lord is in the centre of their marriage and their ministry.
"Coming from the secular stage, I was tired of the negativity. I wanted to elevate the youths and take them to a higher place," Glen said.
He said the name Soul Inspirers is a manifestation of the unit that God created. Although there are a couple other husband and wife musical teams in Jamaica, their sound differs in the interesting mixture of reggae, with Glen deejaying and Terry singing. They find that the versatility of their music gives access to a wide audience, giving them the perfect opportunity to execute their main purpose of "ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ."
Individuality
The name Soul Inspirers was chosen after much prayer in order to be given a name that would diminish their individuality as Terry or Glen, as well as speak to those who hear them.
Singing together as gospel music ministers and as husband and wife is a plus for both of them, after having had the experience of singing separately in the secular world. "It's him leaning on me and me leaning on him, building each other," Terry said.
"It's fabulous to know that everywhere I go, my wife will be there. We bring across the love and Christ, and people need to see that. There are wars going on, but there is still love in the world," Glen said.
Their ministry extends to serving with the youth at Solid Faith Ministries, by teaching them the Bible, holding concerts, taking them on field trips and involving them in the performing arts.
Soul Inspirers is now ministering on the church circuit all over the island, and have been on shows such as 'Fun in the Son'. They have just released a Christmas single entitled It's Christmas, which encourages Jamaicans to lessen the commercialisation of Christmas and spend time sharing with family, friends and the less fortunate in the Yuletide season and beyond.
