Dunoon High are the 2006 ISSA/Digicel urban schoolgirls senior netball champions.

The team shot to victory after defeating St. Hugh's High 24-21 after a hard fought match at the Stadium courts yesterday. In the junior segment, Queen's High beat Bridgeport High 19-13 to be crowned 2006 champions.

Ardenne beat St.Hugh's 15-14 to place third in the juniors, while third place in the seniors went to Tarrant High who defeated Wolmer's 21-19.

"It was great. We feel very excited because they put up a little fight, but we expected to win. They beat us in the second round and we came back to take the win. We are very proud," Shantele Shirley, goal attack and captain of the Queen's team said.

Exciting match

"It went well but we could have worked harder. We felt that we did our best but our best wasn't good enough.," Roxan Guthrie, vice-captain of the Bridgeport team said.

The senior final was the most exciting match of the day, and possibly the entire season as both teams were evenly matched. It was a ding dong struggle. The scores were tied on numerous occasions until Dunoon pulled away with a three-point lead seconds before the final whistle.

Given an edge

Dunoon were given the edge from the start as St. Hugh's goal attack, Kera Christie, aggravated her already injured knee. Still, she played on, in obvious pain to score 20 goals from 28 attempts, while her teammate Dahlia Swaby got one from four.

Meanwhile Dunoon's Crystal Gordon scored 23 from 30 attempts, while her teammate Jody Ann Foreman made one goal from her only attempt.
