Salt Spring KO Granville
published: Friday | December 8, 2006

Western Bureau:

Salt Spring FC earned the right to represent St. James in the 2006-07 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Red Stripe Knockout competition on Wednesday when they defeated Granvillle FC 4-1 on penalties after the teams had battled to a 2-2 draw in their crucial St. James/Captain's Bakery KO semi-final game at Jarrett Park.

In addition to qualifying for the Red Stripe Knockout, the Salt Spring team also earned a place in the final of the Captain's Bakery KO final, where they will meet the winners of the yet to be scheduled second semi-final between Wray & Nephew NPL contenders Wadadah FC and Seba United.

In a game in which both teams gave a wonderful account of themselves, all four goals were scored in the second half.

With action swinging from end to end, Salt Spring took the lead in the 60th minute when the veteran Omar Clarke found himself with space before the Granville goal and cracked a good low shot, which gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Granville drew level in the 77th minute when Dexter Smith scored from the penalty spot.

Salt Spring regained the lead in the 77th minute when Sheldon Campbell broke through the Granville defence and laid on a superb pass to Kemar Sterling who made no mistake.

However, a minute later the Granville team again drew level when Oniel Evans fired in a superb free-kick.
