  • Hot Shots Pool Competition

    Hot Shots Pool Bar will present 'Two The Hard Way' pool tournament on Saturday, December 16 and 17 at Hot Shots, 103 Constant Spring Road.

    The tournament will facilitate both 'A' and 'B' class players playing in separate divisions. The 'A' class players will vie for a winner-take-all $25,000 cash prize, while the 'B' class winner will receive $35,000, second $10,000 and third $5,000. Entry fee for 'A' class players is $1,500 with a re-entry fee of $1,000. The 'B' class players are required to pay $1,200 with a re-entry fee of $1,000 as well.

    There will be a play-off match between the winners of 'A' and 'B' classes, the winner getting $5,000. Entries close on Friday, December 15. Late entries will be accepted on Saturday for a fee of $2,500 in both divisions.

    Some of the island's best players - Roy Letts, Albert Chung, Melville and Sunil 'Termite' Kissundal - are expected to be on show.

  • Daytona the giant killer

    Portmore-based Daytona Football Club continued their giant-killing run this season when they beat Major League team Tru-Juice in the St. Catherine Co-operative Credit Union Happy Sutherland knockout competition on Thursday at Greater Portmore.

    Recently, Red-hot Daytona, a Portmore Division Two outfit, knock off Major League campaigners Meadows FC 3-0 in the second round.

    In other matches, Newland beat Dunbeholden 1-0 and Portmore United tagged Black Lions 2-0.

  • Waterford, Passagefort hunt final spot

    Last year's mid-season champions Passagefort United face Waterford FC in the Dr. Paul Robertson KO quarter-final tomorrow at the Passagefort playing field with the winners advancing to next Sunday's semi-final against Christian Pen. Match time is 3:00 p.m.

    Last week, Passagefort United edged Portsmouth FC 1-0 and Waterford shot past Watson Grove 3-1. In other games, red-hot Daytona FC blanked Caymanas Gardens 3-0, while New Town Braeton had a similar 3-0 win over newcomers Portmore Pines. The semi-finals are scheduled for next Sunday, December 16 at the Greater Portmore playing field.

  • Umpires awards and dinner

    The Jamaica Cricket Umpires' Association (JCA) will host its annual dinner and awards function this evening at the Hilton Kingston hotel, starting at 7:00.

    Umpires with over 20 years of service will be honoured. Most Outstanding Junior Umpire, and the Umpire of the Year are two of the top awards. There will also be zonal prizes.

    Oniel Cruickshank, operations manager of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for Cricket World Cup 2007, will be the guest speaker.

  • Prep School football final

    The Alberga Cup final between Hydel and Mona will be played this afternoon at the University of West Indies (UWI), Mona Bowl, starting at 3:30 p.m.

    The third-place play-off between Sts. Peters and Paul and Quest will precede the championship match at 2:00 p.m. The closing ceremony will be held immediately following the Alberga Cup Championships Game.

    In last week's Henriques Cup KO final played at the same venue, Hydel defeated Quest 4-0. In the third-place play-off, Lannaman beat Sts. Peter and Paul 1-0.

  • Clarendon Community Month Festival

    The Leiba (Esso) Gas Station at the corner of Glenmour Road and Manchester Avenue in Clarendon was the scene of the first Clarendon Community Month Festival, which featured sports and entertainment.

    The sporting activities on show were cycling and dominoes while there was a community quiz and a talent contest.

    Trevor Richards of Evans Heights took the cycling race which started at the train line at Clarendon Park. The 16km (10 miles) race ended at the Leiba Gas Station. He was followed closely by Dave Bartley of Gravel Hill and Courtney Williams of Brooks Common.

    The Frankfield Community Club won the domino contest with a commanding score 15-4. The Frankfield team made up of Orville Hackett, Raymond Hackett, Windel Ford and Alfred Fullerton defeated Lionel Town who had seemed invincible during the semi-final stage. The Clarendon Community Month Festival is a Social Development Commission organised-event and was the final event to celebrate community month (November) 2006.

  • TT League

    Lyante Sports Club defeated hosts Friendship 3-1 in Division One action from the JTTA/North-west Development National Table Tennis Club League.

    The match was played in the Campion College auditorium. Kane Watson starred for Iyante, winning two singles matches.

    In two marathon matches, he outlasted Darryl Strachan 3-2, and national champion Joseph Dibbs 3-2 as Michael Morgan and Dale Parham clipped Rohan Schloss and Strachan 3-2 in doubles, for the third win for Iyante.

    Dibbs edged reigning Manchester Open champion Parham 3-2 to pull one back for Friendship.

  • Thunderbolt too strong

    Two goals from Ralston Chambers carried Thunderbolt FC to a 4-1 victory over Willowdale in the final of the central St. Catherine Cable and Wireless KO competition.

    The match played at the Spanish Town Prison Oval saw Chambers giving the victors the lead in the 21st minute. Willowdale responded 16 minutes later when Jermaine Beckford beat his marker and scored from a goalmouth mêlée for a 1-1 half-time scoreline

    Thunderbolt went ahead gain in the 66th minute when Chambers got his second. They went further in front when Gerald Brooks beat his marker and scored. Davion Collins completed the scoring for Thunderbolt in the 85th minute.Thunderbolt were presented with the Cable and Wireless Trophy.
