Harbour View win women's Pemier League title
published: Sunday | December 10, 2006

Robert Bailey, Gleaner Writer

Harbour View and Meadhaven United are the 2006 Sherwin Williams Women's Premier League and A League champions, respectively.

Both teams scored second leg wins yesterday at Waterhouse mini stadium.

In the opening game Meadhaven defeated Olympic Gardens 3-1 for a 4-3 aggregate. Olympic Gardens had won the first leg 2-1.

Harbour View thrashed Portmore United 4 -1 for a 5-2 aggregate victory. Both teams had played to a 1-1 draw in their first leg at Constant Spring field.

Harbour View came out in a no-nonsense mood yesterday and were rewarded in the 13th minute when national representative Nicola Bell fired home form close range.

Dominate game

Kimmia Parker doubled Harbour View's lead in the 21st minute with a beautiful 25-yard shot as the champions led 2-0 at half-time.

On the resumption, Harbour View continued to dominate the game and went further ahead in the 63rd minute when Shanique Mitchell weaved her way past two Portmore defenders to fire home from close range.

Tamakee Jolly pulled one back for Portmore in the 73rd minute before Parker completed the scoring for the winners in the 86th minute with a beautiful left footed volley.

"It was long overdue," said Vin Blaine, coach of Harbour View. "We never capitalised on our chances in past years. The difference this time is that we scored early and put them on the back foot, which means they had to come at us," said Blaine.
