published: Sunday | December 10, 2006

Carlton Baugh, Jr.

Carlton Baugh was the shining star yesterday as Jamaica's cricketers continued their preparations for the upcoming Carib Beer Series and KFC Cup at Elleston Road.

Playing for Gareth Breese's XI, Baugh, who recently lost his spot on the West Indies' one-day team, hit a boundary-studded 69 with 12 fours off 107 deliveries in 163 minutes as his team scored 346.

The right-handed Baugh received good support from Jamie Trenchfield, who added 13 to his overnight score to be dismissed for 55, and David Bernard who scored two more runs after resuming on 67.

Trenchfield hit seven fours and a six off 131 deliveries in his innings, while Bernard struck nine fours in almost five-and-a-half hours at the crease. Andre Russell chipped in with 15 not out at the end.

Alton Beckford with 3-31, Bevon Brown 2-78 and Jermaine Lawson 2-69 were the best bowlers for Lambert's XI.

When rain forced an early end to the day's play Lambert's XI who made 243 in their first innings, were 92-2.

Shane Powell, 25, and Andre McCarthy, four, will resume batting at 10:00 today.
