We will miss Perry Henzel

The Editor, Sir:

Upon returning to the United States from Europe, we were deeply saddened to hear the news of Perry Henzel's passing. We got to know Perry, Sally and the rest of the Henzel family in the mid-1990s. While the general public knows Perry for his amazing body of art, we were privileged to see the private side of the man. He had an extraordinary passion for life and 'lived large' in the very best sense of that phrase.

He was, as some have written, a firebrand, but in our company nothing pleased him more than a robust debate, whether it be on politics or culture, or made him prouder than his remarkable family. Perry was Jamaican to the core. His family, the people of his country and his many friends and admirers around the world will miss him deeply, but will rejoice in his life and works, and, for some of us, for the honour of his company and friendship.
