The Editor, Sir:
In a recent commentary on problems that the tourism industry could face, Edward Seaga highlighted the need for a language school; particularly so, in light of the massive development spearheaded by the Spanish interests.
This, to me, is a very practical suggestion and ought to be pursued rigorously. I think it would be a very worthwhile adjunct to the facility now being operated by the HEART Trust at Runaway Bay and I would urge the relevant authorities to seriously look at the possibility of establishing a language lab there.
They should consider offering at least, three courses starting with English. Yes, English! The other two should be arrived at based on recommendations from the players in the industry and should be part of the regular curriculum.
Given the importance of the industry to the country's economy and development, establishment cost ought not to be a deterrent and hopefully this would take it out of the realms of partisan politics.
I am, etc.,
