Reno leapfrog Harbour View
published: Tuesday | December 12, 2006

Downswell

Reno Football Club of Westmoreland leap-frogged Harbour View yesterday when they defeated them 2-1 in a Wray and Nephew National Premier game played at St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in Santa Cruz.

The win put Reno into second place on 25 points while Harbour View, who have a game in hand, slipped to third on 24 points after three sets of games in the second of the three-round competition. Waterhouse, who were not scheduled to play yesterday because of a Caribbean Club Championship match, still lead on 29 points.

All three goals came in the first 10 minutes with Mark Williams opening the scoring for the 'home' team in the third minute.

A deflection off a defender helped Kavin Bryan to equalise for Harbour View in the ninth minute.

Hopes erased

Any hopes Harbour View had of earning a point were erased a minute later when Kirk Wright sent Reno ahead once more.

"I think this win and the three points which resulted from it fit perfectly into our plans of securing a place in the top three, going forward to challenge for a place in the end-of-round final and eventually challenge for the title," assistant coach Aaron Lawrence said after the game.

Lawrence was full of praise for the team and especially Jamaica Under-20 goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr.

"Dwayne was outstanding today but not just him. I think the entire team played well and showed the tactical discipline we required of them," he added.

A disappointed Lenworth Hyde of Harbour View said that his team gave up two easy goals in the first 10 minutes and failed to recover despite dominating the game and creating a number of chances.

"The Reno goalkeeper made a lot of difference to the result. He really stood out, he was excellent and saved a number of chances. We dominated the possession, created a host of chances, but did not capitalise.

"This loss has really set us back but we have to regroup on Wednesday against Seba because every point is important," said Hyde.
