August Town and Village United played to a 1-1 draw in the only Corporate Area game yesterday in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.
The malaria outbreak affecting parts of Kingston prompted the postponement of the Arnett and Boys' Town match at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex and the Tivoli/Naggo Head match at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
Another match, Portmore versus Waterhouse at Ferdie Neita Park, was also postponed due to Water-house's participation in the Caribbean Club Championships.
August Town, aiming to distance themselves from the relegation zone, struck first in the match at the UWI Bowl when David Stultz picked up the ball on the right side and slotted home past Leighton Murray in the fourth minute. In the 41st minute, Leon Irvin scored the equaliser for Village.
August Town could have been 2-0 up after 20 minutes, but Gary Brooks was a split second too late to head in Stultz's cross from the left side.
Missed chance
August Town would again miss another glorious chance for the score to reflect their first-half dominance when midfielder Jermaine Richards had his point-blank range shot blocked by Murray.
Richards, who was all by himself, apparently thought he was offside and delayed his attempt at goal.
Village would get their breakthrough just before half-time when Richard Reid's powerful shot from outside the box bounced off the keeper and into the path of Irvin for an easy conversion. Irvin could have provided the winner for Village in the second half, but he failed to connect properly with an enticing cross from Omar Allen.
The draw puts August Town on 12 points and Village on 16.
"I was hoping to get three points but we didn't get it," said Village coach Cassman Williams.
"We were utilising the width of the field and using the short passes against them and I think that is where we progressed. I was hoping it would have continued in the second half but we didn't."
August Town assistant coach Dominique Spaulding rued his team's missed chances which, had they gone the other way, would have given August Town their third win.
"We got some chances that we should have put away, but we just didn't finish up front," said Spaulding.
"We gave up the midfield and the attacking third didn't do what it was supposed to do; they didn't push enough."
August Town had a better result in the under-21 game, beating Village United 4-0.
