GRENADA: Sir John's electoral victory 'heartening'
published: Wednesday | December 13, 2006

ST. GEORGES, Grenada (CMC):

Grenada Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell yesterday offered congratulations to St. Lucia Prime Minister-elect Sir John Compton for his stunning electoral victory, hailing the 82-year-old as a leader with experience and vision.

Mitchell said he had already personally called to congratulate Sir John whose United Workers Party took 11 of the 17 parliamentary seats up for grabs in Monday's general election, defeating the Dr. Kenny Anthony-led St. Lucia Labour Party which captured the remaining six seats.

The Grenada leader said Sir John who led St. Lucia to Independence in 1979 was among those who provided help to him when he assumed office in 1995.
